(April 22nd 2021) Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) in conjunction with TU Dublin are delighted to formally launch their Digital Health Internship Programme. The purpose of the programme is to create a bridge between excellent classroom knowledge and the healthcare ICT workplace. The TUH Digital Health Internships are the perfect venue for refining student’s healthcare and business knowledge, ICT skills and research interests.

Every January, TUH will offer two, six month paid internships to two TU Dublin students studying an ICT related course at TU Dublin, Tallaght campus. Commenting on the new programme, David Wall, Chief Information Officer at TUH said The TUH Digital Health Internship experience is central to TU Dublin students’ learning process.  It offers students an opportunity to explore areas of interest, develop insights and, work in Digital Health in one of Ireland's leading Hospitals”.

Sharon Larkin Director of HR TUH stated – “The TUH Digital Health Internship Programme aims to train and provide practical experience for TU Dublin students from ICT courses to work across a variety of ICT disciplines including Business Intelligence, Application Portfolio Management and ICT Service Management.”  It is hoped that when students graduate they may consider pursuing an ICT related career that would enhance the eHealth workforce capacity in Ireland. 

Sean McHugh, Lecturer and Work Placement Co-ordinator, TU Dublin commented: “Computing students at TU Dublin for 20 years have worked closely with TUH gaining an opportunity to develop their ICT and transferable skills. This has only been possible with the valuable support and mentorship from TUH staff.  A positive outcome from this experience is to see several TU Dublin graduates now among the ICT staff of TUH. TU Dublin is thrilled this is now on a formal footing with the launch of TUH Digital Health Internship Programme and look forward to working with TUH in the coming years.”
