Transition Year & Work Experience

Transition Year two Day Information Programme (Classroom based)

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN FROM THE 1ST APRIL EACH YEAR UNTIL THE LAST FRIDAY IN SEPTEMBER EACH YEAR.  This two day programme has been developed by the Centre for Learning & Development to give Transition Year students information on various career pathways within the hospital. It endeavours to give transition year students an overview of hospital life and some of the essential requirements for excellent patient care. Currently it is delivered twice during each academic year. As places are limited preference will be given to students from schools within the surrounding and catchment areas.   Click on this link to download an application form. 

Work Experience Second Level (Pre-Leaving Certificate students/Transition Year students)

APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN FROM THE 1ST APRIL EACH YEAR UNTIL THE LAST FRIDAY IN SEPTEMBER EACH YEAR. 
This is a programme which allows students to experience how the various departments around the hospital operate. Currently the areas that facilitate work experience are physiotherapy, the play therapist, administration, laboratory, pharmacy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical photography and radiology. Students seeking placements for more than 2 days must be Garda vetted and as such they will need to be 16 years or over. A basic manual handling course and relevant online eLearning will be required prior to commencement of the placement. A copy of their college/school insurance letter and character reference from their tutor/co-ordinator will also be requested before the placement commences. Work Placement for Post Leaving Certificate (3RD Level Students/Secretarial Colleges)

APPLICATIONS OPEN FROM THE 1ST APRIL WITH FLEXIBILITY ON CLOSING DATE

This is a programme that has been developed to facilitate unpaid work placements throughout the hospital and are subject to availability.   Successful applicants must be Garda vetted by the hospital, complete a basic manual handling course and relevant online eLearning prior to commencement of their placement.   A copy of their college/school insurance letter will also be requested before the placement commences.   Students applying for a period of more than two weeks are required attend the Hospital Corporate Induction Programme.   Click on this link to download the application form.
