HR Medical Division

Tallaght University Hospital is an academic teaching hospital associated with Trinity College Dublin, one of the world’s leading universities, offering fantastic opportunities for medical doctors to develop excellence in research skills. Trinity College Dublin specialises in the training and professional development of staff in the areas of General Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and many other specialties.

Welcome from Professor Paul Ridgway, Lead Clinical Director

Catherine WallWelcome to those returning or those coming to work in Tallaght University Hospital for the first time. In the main, our experience is that NCHDs are happy during their rotation to Tallaght University Hospital. We have a long tradition of fostering NCHD career development, many returning as consultants to this and other Irish hospitals.

We have a range of core specialties which gives NCHDs a broad experience prior to making decisions on specialties or selecting their chosen career.

We are one of only two Dublin sites running medical membership exams through the RCPI. We have made this a particular focus over the past couple of years and this has been led by Dr Lucy-Anne Behan. Our NCHDs have a high success rate in passing their membership exams.

We have a lead NCHD and were one of the pilot sites when this role was originally introduced in 2014. The role is now an integral part of the hospital structure offering an interface between NCHDs, the Executive Management Team, Medical Board and HR Medical Division. I myself operate an ‘open door’ policy should you require any assistance.

The Hospital offers extra-curricular activities such as the golf society, tag rugby, hospital choir and more recently a hospital orchestra.

I hope your time here will be productive in terms of personal and professional development.

Staff Stories

Dr. Anandan Natarajan - Specialist Registrar, Professorial Respiratory Centre
Dr. Anandan NatarajanI joined Tallaght University Hospital in July 2015 in Respiratory Medicine and in July 2016 I was offered the position of Research Registrar in The Professorial Respiratory Centre.  In this role I look after patients with Pulmonary Fibrosis in the out-patients clinic, and undertake research into Respiratory Medicine. I like working at Tallaght University Hospital because Professors Donnelly and Lane and Dr. Moloney have assisted and encouraged me enormously in my role.  Their regular feedback and guidance has enabled me to learn and to grow.  The opportunity to now undertake research with a view to acquiring MD qualification is invaluable.  I would recommend this experience to any NCHD who wants to build their knowledge and be guided in how best to treat and care for patients.”
