Inherited cardiac conditions (diagnosis and management of cardiomyopathies, ion channel disorders such as Long QT syndrome, and family screening after sudden cardiac death of a relative, including consideration of genetic testing)

Almost 20 years’ experience in Clinical Cardiology (mostly Tallaght University Hospital and St James’ Hospitals, Dublin)
Extensive experience in inherited cardiac conditions and sudden cardiac death, beginning with a three year Clinical Research Fellowship with Prof Bill McKenna and Prof Perry Elliott in University College London (2003)


Established the Centre for Cardiac Risk in Younger Persons (CRYP) in Tallaght University Hospital, the first full-time dedicated unit for inherited cardiac conditions (ICC) in Ireland.
Developed a combined Paediatric and Adult Cardiology Family Clinic for ICC with Dr. David Coleman and Dr. Terry Prendiville
Steering Group Member for the RCPI Diploma in Syncope
Member of the Clinical Advisory Group on Rare Diseases
Multidisciplinary Team Member for the Paediatric Neuromuscular Diseases Clinic in Tallaght University Hospital, and developed an adult multidisciplinary service for hereditary ataxias with Drs. Richard Walsh and Sinead Murphy
Member of the Irish Heart Foundation Council on Sudden Cardiac Death
Co-founder of the Irish Inherited Cardiac Conditions Network (a cross-border network of Cardiologists, Geneticists and Cardiac Surgeons)
